Pictures that Lie: Sharks Attack!

The picture I chose was the picture of a U.S Air Force helicopter photoshopped to show a shark attacking the soldier climbing up the helicopter's ladder. The photo originated on the internet in 2001, it was manipulated by adding a picture of a shark into the bottom of the original picture of the helicopter. i am not exactly sure why the picture was manipulated this way but I think its purpose was to dramatize the situation or merely as a joke. i do not think the manipulation was particularly harmful because if anything, it made the Air Force seem more heroic.

  1. I think this was more of a joke as well. It seems more funny than harmful! :)

  2. I saw this a little while ago and I didn't know it was manipulated but it freaked me out because I am really scared of sharks. I bet it was manipulated just to freak people like me out.

  3. But couldn't this be taken too far? What if someone actually believed this and went shark hunting in whatever body of water this was? They could be killed or severely injured while trying to be like the characters in Jaws!!!! That is pretty harmful I think, even if it was only meant as a joke.
